Ella the "Kewpie Doll" ? ? ?

We started our "Adventure" to St. Louis (Well, actually St. Charles, MO) on Thursday morning. We left a bit earlier than we wanted to, which is typical for the Snyder family. We are delivering a RV to our cousin who bought it from someone here in Richfield and travelling in a RV is obviously slower than a car. Also, travelling with a baby can slow you down as well. So, after a nice hotel stay (the RV is winterized so we couldn't stay there), we continued our trip. The following video was taken yesterday when we stopped for lunch. Ella so far has the a really good traveler, for which we have been very thankful. Dave thought it would fun to "lick Ella's head and stick her to the front window like a Kewpie Doll so she could watch."  We obviously didn't, but, well we wanted her to at least see out the window.

Ella's First Christmas Eve

Jana has been searching for a Christmas "Tradition" for our family, now that there are three of us! Below is what she came up with. I think it will be a great tradition.

25 Days of Christmas Videos #25

I thought this 1968 Christmas From Space was very fitting as the final Christmas Video. Let me know what you think. Enjoy.

RMC Baptism 2011

I was trying to purge some stuff off of my computer and video camera this week and found some of this footage. I love when people decide to publicly profess Christ and identify with Him. What a great day this was.

December 1 my daughter, Ella, had her three month birthday. To remember this "milestone" I took all, and only, pics that I had taken of her from my phone and made them into a video with the help of "Animoto"(great resource, by the way). Enjoy.

Ella's Bumbo

Ella has been wanting to sit up more and more lately. Tonight she was sitting on my knee and watching "Santa Claus is Coming to Town"! Jana remembered getting a "Bumbo" that allows babies to sit upright. So, of course, we took a video of Ella. Enjoy!

Tucker Enjoys the Newbie (Ella)

Although Tucker seems jealous at times, he has really been good with Ella. You can see that in this video as Tucker cradles her. Enjoy.

Response to Courageous

Here are a few people who saw "Courageous" on Wednesday night with us and their response to the movie.
You really need to see this movie in the theater.

Saturday, October 8, 2011

I just realized that I have never posted this video.  I realized it when one of the people in it, Lauren Elsasser, (the cupcake queen of Central PA - Check out her blog), mentioned on Facebook that we weren't telling parents right away about this incident.  I didn't remember that, but I definately didn't post it on my blog, so . . . maybe she was right.  Anyway. . . here it is.

Box Office Mojo Update: Courageous #4!

Sometime today, www.boxofficemojo.com updated their site and "Courageous" was actually the fourth highest grossing film of the weekend, not the fifth as I reported earlier!!  Can it move up this weekend??

Courageous Takes #5 With Only Half the Theaters

The "Courageous" movie I have been promoting last week came in at #5, according to www.BoxOfficeMojo.com, even though it had half of the theaters as that of the top 4 grossing films!  As you can see below, Courageous was shown in 1,161 theaters, compared to 3,515 that "Dolphin Tale" (Another positive film to see, by the way) was shown.  AND, this was the 5th best opening weekend for a Christian film behind only "The Passion of the Christ" and the three "Narnia" movies.

Highway 35 Baby Girls

This week, two youth pastors, Caleb Beech and Yours Truly, both who work at churches 7 miles apart, became fathers (for the first time) to two beautiful baby girls - all within twelve hours of each other. They also were only about 7 rooms apart at the hospital. To top it off, a third youth pastor that worked with the two of us, became a father to a baby boy within the same time period! In the pic you can see Caleb and I as we show off our girls.

Daddy's Little Girl

Here are a couple more pics of Ella. The first was only minutes after she was born. The second was this morning. Jana and I are pleased with God's little gift. To quote my friend David C., "He (God) done good!" we are praying she will see God in us and want to love and follow Him!

First Pic

I told you I would post dome pics of Ella as long as it was ok with Jana. I got permission So, for those who really wanted to see picture of the baby, here you go.

And Her Name Is . . .

Ok here is what a lot of you have been waiting for . . . Baby Girl Snyder was born at 1:04 PM on September 1. She weighed 7.0 lbs and was 19 inches long.

Thanks for your continued prayers!

Oh, I almost forgot. She was named after her two grandmothers. . . Ella Lynn.

Pictures soon as long as it is okay with Momma.

It's Time

I am writing this on my phone since the Internet here at the hospital is pathetic. So . . . A lot of new twists have taken place since yesterday.

After much deliberation and many phone calls, the medical team decided that there was no reason to have Jana continue to be in pain for another eight days. Their solution was to take the baby Thursday around 11 am. After the final decision was made, preparations began for this to happen. Jana continued to receive morphine to take the edge off of the pain and we continued to make plans for our new arrival.

This morning they came at 6 am to take more blood. At that time Jana said the pain was a bit better despite not having any medication since 11 PM.

Then, on top of everything, Jana started having contractions! I think God knew what He was doing by getting us to the hospital before this became an emergency cesarean section. Actually, so far the contractions haven't been too strong. Jana thinks they could have started around 5am or before.

We are now just waiting For the nurses to come take Jana to the operating room seeing as all the preparations are complete. Prayerfully within two hours we will get to see our little girl for the first time! And I will post pictures AFTER Jana wakes up and sees the baby. BTW - Because of Jana's factor 5 Leiden, she has to have a general anesthesia which means I can't go in the room. :(
Also, know that we will post the name we picked here later this evening.

So, please continue your prayerful ways and know you are appreciated.

Jana and Baby Update

The hospital has blocked Facebook and other sites AND I needed something to eat (the dining services basically don't serve between 10 and 11:15???) so I am at Sheetz. However, the Internet here is very slow. So, I have been here longer than I wanted to already.

Jana and I went home on Monday night around 9:45 PM. On Tuesday morning we called and found a chiropractor in Sunbury who would see Jana. The visit seemed very encouraging and she had about an hours worth of relief from the painful migraine! But, as has been the case for three weeks, the pain began to return. Thankfully, we had an appointment for an ultrasound and to see the doctor for the final time before next weeks delivery. The longer we stayed the more Jana complained of throbbing. The Doctor thought it would be best to send Jana to Labor and Delivery i.e. The Family Place, to see if they could help with the anguish. We stayed another night there after they gave Jana some morphine (it sounds really bad but they say it is common) and a sleeping pill. The MS doctor came in and gave Jana a thorough exam and believes this "headache" is hormonal and not MS related.

Today the pain was a little better but we aren't sure what will happen next. We continue to pray for some reprieve and for wisdom for the doctors.   They were hoping to be able to break this condition but haven't had any luck.  Jana's blood work and blood pressure have been great and the baby continues to give good readings.  It is just this blasted migraine we can't control.  Both Jana and I appreciate your continued prayers.

An Update on Jana's Headache

Here is a short and sweet udate on Jana . . . after two shots of something or other and an Ambien yesterday, Jana was finally able to get a little relief and fall asleep (around 7:30 PM Sunday). The pain came back this morning, however, followed by another shot of something else and then another pill of something. We are hoping she will be able to come home and "manage" this migraine until next week when the delivery will take place. She has gotten some much needed rest, seeing as she hasn't slept well for about 3 weeks. Thanks for your prayers because without some intervention, Jana will have to suffer through this thing for a little while. She is willing but I am hoping she can get a break from the pain.

Courageous: "A Mom's Got To See" Movie

Jana and I have had the opportunity to preview the new Courageous Movie (see trailer here) a few weeks ago.  The boys (and gals) from Albany, GA continue to produce entertaining and faith based movies.  Their latest offering (see a synopsis here) was thought provoking, entertaining, action packed and funny, just like the Sherwood movies in the past.  Also as in their past projects, there were those unexpected twists that made you have tears at one point only to be laughing the next.

I was pleasantly surprised by all the action scenes and loved the clear presentation of the Gospel.  Some might think having the Gospel message in the movie might keep non-church goers from coming but I believe the movie was done in a way that people won't be offended and hopefully (and prayerfully) some might even respond to the message.

Going into the theater before the preview, I did have one concern. . . being a youth pastor, I was concerned that a movie about fatherhood might not be relevant to teens.  I was wrong.  First, teens today need to know the importance of being a great and Godly father.  Second, there are so many other themes in this movie that kids, women and men need to see that and hear.  It's not JUST for fathers.  And, it is very entertaining as well.

I love the fact that someone is doing action packed, humorous, family films AND that people are showing the industry that those movies need to be made.  You should go to see this film and take your family and friends.  (Note: there is some violence so be careful who you take.)  This is definitely a "Mom's got to see this one" movie.

This Morning's Promise

I had an unusual experience in our living room this morning - an indoor rainbow! It so happened that one of our CD's was laying upside-down at the right place at the right time when the sun pierced through the window. The result was a rainbow effect on our ceiling. While I know this "sign" isn't the same as a real rainbow which is given with a promise, it still reminded me that God is in control of all things.

Luke Dowler, I.J.M. and Human Trafficking

I am passing this along from Andrew Jones of Converge Music . . .

I wanted to let you know that Luke Dowler has an incredibly powerful new single that just came out a couple days ago, and 70% of the net proceeds are going to International Justice Mission (an internationally recognized leader in the fight against slavery and human trafficking). Pictures from Wednesday At Camp

Here is today's video we showed to the campers.  Enjoy!

A Quick Update From Camp

Wednesday was a hot day - thankfully, we were able to go to the water slides to keep cool.  We are doing our best to keep hydrated and cool.  We had our "Camp Fire" inside in the A/C last night and had kids drink water before they left for their cabins.  We also had a "Digital Dash" last night where the cabins had to take pictures of themselves doing fun things.  You will get to see the video later we hope.  Today things get back to the regular schedule again.  We are looking to finish the week well.  Thanks for your prayers.

Wednesday's Update from Camp

Some cabin leaders who had to help with a song at camp fire.
Today is Water Slide Day at camp and we had a great time as usual.  Aaron Benner is in the camp to speak tonight at camp fire and Justin Fogle talked about camp in Hungary and was the "missionary" for today.  Jana continues to speak each day for Bible "class".  Tonight we have a picture taking activity where the cabins will go around camp and take pictures of their cabin doing different things.  I will be sure to post pictures/video about it soon.  It is hard to believe we have three days in and only two to go!  After a long afternoon at the slides, we could all use some extra prayers.  Tomorrow is Hawaiian Day so I am breaking out a new shirt!

Jana Teaches at Camp

I am proud of my wife and the staff who are here this week at camp. God has blessed us a bunch! Jana has been talking on the theme "WHAT?!?". You will have to ask your kids, or Jana, what WHAT?!? is all about.

A Quiet Camp

The camp is quiet as all the campers have left for the lake. Jana and I are getting ready to leave as well. But, as I sit here in the quiet, I want to send a quick post to ask everyone to continue to pray fir the week. Many times, camp has been influential in people's lives. We just don't want to miss an opportunity. Thanks for your continued support.

Today's Video from Camp

Here is the video we will show at 9:40 AM today!

Popular Activity at Camp

Floor hockey is a very popular activity at camp! Everything has gone well so far. Thanks for your prayers. Today Del Benner will be at camp to speak during the mission time and Jana and the crew will continue teaching on "WHAT?!?". We will post a video with over 100 pics before lunch today.

Monday, July 18, 2011

Sunday Night at Camp

The campers have arrived and the camp week has begun! After all the introductions and information, the kids have begun to get settled in. The kids have been put into teams for the weekly Bible memorization contest and had a preview of the weeks' theme. The camp fire speaker, Paul Beech, gave his testimony. Devotions in the cabins closed out the evening (We hope. We will find out shortly at staff meeting.)

Today is yellow clothing and sunglasses day and we will begin our "WHAT?!?" theme, where we will talk about some of the things in the Bible that make you say "What?!?". We will also hear from today's missionary, Paul Beech from Keys Ministries. After quiz practice and lunch we will have crafts, activities at the big field, and spend the rest of the afternoon at Raystown Lake. During free time there is opportunities to participate in individual athletic competitions. Tonight is quizzing, snacks and camp fire.

The above is the basic schedule all week. I will post a few pictures later today and then the daily video later tonight. Thanks for following us during our week at camp!

Soccer Camp Closing

Pastor Paul shares to the "multitudes" at the last night of Soccer Camp. It is bitter sweet for me as it is his last official day today. It has been an exciting time with Paul as the pastor at RMC. God speed to Paul and his family as they begin a new ministry.

The week has been great and productive. There has been great ministry all week.

Joel & Jana's Baby Registry

I am really excited for September 12 to get here.  That is Jana's due date.  Today she is 26 weeks along!  It is exciting and a little scary at the same time.  We have been working on the Nursery and planning for our new arrival.  This weekend we bought her "coming home" clothes.  You can see more about that at Jana's blog - Ms Baby & Me.  I really didn't know there was soooo much to think about and so much to buy!  Thankfully, some people have asked about our baby registry.  Now, while I am a little embarrassed about posting this, I also understand that it is nice for those who can now know what we need or would like.  So . . . for those of you who want to know, I have listed where we are registered.

Alabaster Coffee Roasting & Tea Company

Karl brewing some coffee
Jana and I are "Vacationing" in the "resort" town of Williamsport for a few days. Jana, on her blog, has called it a "babymoon" (I will let you read for yourself).  We have actually had a very nice and relaxed two days so far.  One of the things we wanted to do while in Billtown was catch up with a few friends who make their home here.  Yesterday we lunched with the Sweeting's and today we walked down Pine Street to see Karl at Alabaster Coffee Roasting and Tea Company.  Karl buys the green coffee bean, roasts it (to perfection) and brews it by pouring the hot water by hand over the freshly ground coffee.  It is a unique but excellent way of preparing coffee.  They have all kinds of coffee, (most of which I have no idea about) tea, pastries and free internet.  Since I am not a coffee fan at all, Karl made me a vanilla Latte.  I have to admit, the longer I sipped, the more I enjoyed the beverage!  I would definitely have another, if I lived in town.

I also really enjoyed the atmosphere and decor at Alabaster.  I am a fan of the old brick wall and their 64 square foot concrete bar.  Again, if I were a local, I would be there a great deal.  We had a nice visit and learned a bunch and are looking forward to a return to the City of Millionaires and Alabaster.

The REAL Sue Thomas @ RMC

Sue Thomas
Below is the theme/intro for the "Sue Thomas: FBEYE" award winning TV show. It is still showing on DirectTV, Sky Angel and other cable channels. I am showing it because the REAL Sue Thomas will be speaking on Saturday night, March 26, at RMC at 6:30 PM. There will be a sign Language interpreter available and there will be desserts and beverages following the talk. Sue also has MS, which is near to my heart as Jana, my wife, also has MS. I am really looking forward to hearing this lady share her story.

You can also see more about Sue Thomas here.

Impact Techs

The tech guys have been doing a great job this weekend. Below is a sample of some of the things they have been doing. More soon . . . I hope.

Runks and Danny Ray

These are not great pics. However, Runks wouldn't stop long enough for a good picture.

And, Danny Ray was to far away.

Both did a great job and Impact 2011 had a great start!

I wanted to share this and encourage you to watch it.  My friend, Brian Ford, and his youth group have entered a contest with Dare 2 Share and need to have as many people watch this as possible.  So, pass it on!

My Favorite Super Bowl Commercial

Here is my favorite commercial from last night's Super Bowl game. After it aired, the site it was advertising, Lookup 316, drew so much traffic that it was difficult to load the web page.

Possible New Movie? "Youth Group"

This is the trailer for a new movie that needs some funding to get it to the Theater. I think this is as good as most movies I see advertised. Check it out and let me know what you think.
